SQL: Self-teaching Guide (Wiley Self Teaching Guides) Book

If you are new to SQL and are looking for a kinder, gentler introduction, Stephenson's and Hartwig's book is appropriately named. In addition to the standard expository material, you'll find several different types of self-tests (including "Check yourself" and "Practice what you've learned") dotting the book. If you sat down in front of a computer with a standard SQL implementation and read this cover to cover, you would know enough SQL to begin writing programs on your own. The book uses Gupta Technologies' SQLBase, a relatively obscure product, for their examples. Fortunately, they do not employ any of SQLBase's extensions and stick to standard SQL. Therefore, if you use Oracle or another database, you should have no difficulty following the examples, although some of the figures will not match what you see on the screen. SQL Self-Teaching Guide, although a good introductory manual, has become somewhat dated and does not cover some of the commands that were introduced by the SQL92 standard. Read More
