Share the Sky Book
Fei fei loves kites. She lives in China with her grandfather, who can make the most beautiful kites from rice paper and cloth. When cousin Yuan yuan flies them high in the sky, Fei fei's heart soars upon the wind following the flight of the kite. One day a letter arrives from North America from her mom and dad. They have been saving money for Fei fei to join them over the seas, and now the time has come. All her relatives tell Fei fei stories of the country far away and of the strange things the people eat, how different they look, and how oddly they speak. She is full of questions and doubts about what her new life will be like. Fei fei flies through the sky in an airplane, like a kite with no strings and meets her parents waiting in the airport. As soon as her dad lifts Fei fei up into the air, all her worries float away. But her new home is different. Fei fei must learn to like the new food, and she keeps her parents busy writing letters to her grandparents. Fei fei still worries about school, for she doesn't speak the new language. But on her first day Fei fei's teacher leads her into the classroom and there on the wall is a beautiful rainbow kite. Mrs. Bray even understands a little of Fei fei's words. And best of all, Fei fei is asked to teach the other children how to make kites! Ting-xing Ye was born in Shanghai and came to Toronto in August 1987 as a visiting scholar at York University.
