Sluggy Slug won't budge, not even when lured with a pink lollipop. That pretty much sums up the plot of this small, charming, square book, but Chris Raschka's simple brushstrokes speak a thousand words. Nobody could make a recalcitrant slug seem as vivacious as the creator of the Caldecott Honor book Yo! Yes? and Like Likes Like. Designed for children just learning to read, the Thingy Thing books all reinforce simple sounds and word repetition. Don't miss the rest of the books in the series: Wormy Worm, Moosey Moose, and Whaley Whale. Kids will adore these wonderfully absurd tributes to creatures great and small, but adults may like them even more. (Preschool to beginning readers) --Karin Snelson
