Studies in Extended Metapsychology: Clinical Applications of Bion's Ideas (Clunie Press) Book

The work of Wilfred Bion, by its very nature being a major step forward in the psycho-analytical model-making of the mental apparatus, will undoubtedly require many years for its full assimilation into the thought and practice of workers in the field. To assist this process of assimilation two types of exposition are required: to help students to read Bion's work in a comprehending way; and to show the way to the clinical application of this revolutionary modification of the working model of the mind. The first of these tasks was undertaken by Leon Grinberg et al in Introduction to the Work of Bion (Clunie Press, 1975) and by Donald Meltzer in Part III of The Kleinian Development (Clunie Press, 1978). The present volume undertakes the second task and should be read as a companion to The Kleinian Development.Written as a series of clinical papers over the pat ten years, this collection makes clear the fundamental changes in the author's approach, technique and interpretive vision wrought by the gradual incorporation of the Bionic model.
