The Business of Tourism Book
The purpose of this textbook is to provide students with a sound foundation in the principles of business operations in travel and tourism. It offers a framework for problem-solving and analysis, while encouraging those who seek to make their career in tourism to be mindful of their social responsibility towards its development. The introductory chapters deal with the nature and significance of tourism and its historical development, with particular reference to the growth of mass tourism in the 20th century. This is followed by an examination of the business of tourism by reference to the general structure and organization of the industry. Each sector of the industry is examined in turn. The book concludes with the role of public sector tourism and the impact of tourism in economic and social terms, with a look ahead to tourism in the 21st century. The text will appeal particularly to those students following the BTEC National Diploma in Travel and Tourism, and to those following BTEC business and finance courses with options in travel and tourism at both National and Higher National level. It will also be useful for professional courses such as HCIMA, as an introductory text for degree and postgraduate tourism courses asn to those already employed in the industry who wish to broaden their knowledge.Read More
