The Golden Age (PLAYS) Book

Written by Louis Nowra and with an introduction by Gerry Turcotte, this book was first published in 1985 by Currency Press Pty. Ltd., of Strawberry Hills, NSW 2012, Australia and was reprinted in the 2nd edition in 1989 (further printings of this 2nd ed. took place in 1992, 1995 and 1998). The 2nd edition is the complete one and adds a new scene in Act One, a scene in the author's earlier script, but left out of the premiere production for various reasons. The play is set during the wartime years 1939-1945 and the action moves from locations in Hobart and South-West Tasmania to Berlin in the last days of the war. It was inspired by the true story of a group of people, 'ghosts from the netherworld of an Australian childhood', who were discovered in the wilds of Tasmania in 1939. Lost in read more...
