Sergeant Jack Hardman of 45 Commando Royal Marines has reached the end of his twelve-year engagement and has resisted the suggestion from his colonel to sign on for further service. To Hardman's surprise he is offered an interview in London for a position in Government security, which turns out to be in MI6 and is the start of a very exciting chapter in his life. We follow his adventures in Pakistan and the Middle East, where life is cheap and often short.
