The Legend of Sigurd and Gudrun Book

The Legend of Sigurd and Gudrún is made up of two previously unpublished poems, "The Lay of the Volsungs" and "The Lay of Gudrun", written by J.R.R Tolkien whilst he was a Professor at Oxford during the 1920s and 30s and before he wrote his best known work, "The Hobbit" and "The Lord of The Rings". This book has been meticulously edited by Tolkien's son Christopher, a former lecturer in English at Oxford, who also includes his own lectures on Norse literature, commentary and notes on the poems. The two epic poems are based on material from the Norse saga the Elder Edda and tell the story of Sigurd the Völsung, the fall of the Niflungs and the love, magic, jealousy and tragedy that surrounds the events.
