The Psychology of older people: Frailty and Well-Being Book
Frailty and well-being are topical and upcoming issues in health psychology and gerontology. At a time when we increasingly expect individuals to live to an advanced age, there is little awareness of what this implies for the individual and the individual's social world. The authors offer an alternative to the traditional medical model that categorizes old age through manifested diseases. Instead, the book considers psychological and social factors such as quality of life and social relationships, tackles different constructions of frailty and well-being to determine the meaning of old age for different groups, and looks at connections between physical frailty and mental frailty. The book will explore these issues and consider the psychological and social aspects of experiencing frailty in later life through a variety of gerontological, clinical, and psychological research and literature. The authors also consider a number of health trajectories and examine the implications on well-being. Features such as emboldened key terms, text boxes (key research topics, brief bio of key psychologists), glossary, and issues for future research will be included.Read More
