The Rules of the Game Book

It may not be an Olympic event, but business is a sport just like any other say Chris and Tara Brady in their guide to becoming a successful corporate player. Rules of the Game is an exposition of game theory, how it applies to business and how it can give companies and individuals a competitive edge. Chris Brady and Tara Brady bring what could best be described as a varied background to their work; between them they have experienced army life, football playing and coaching and most recently academic and consultancy work in business management. This is reflected throughout the book, with examples taken from all these areas. The overall structure of Rules of the Game reflects the authors' game theory--with one section devoted to explaining the elements of a game and another explaining how to use the theory to win in business. In addition, there is a section offering case studies taken from football, war, politics and business, all drawn from the UK press. The authors cleverly tie these real world examples together using the threads they've explained in the main body of the book, helping to make their theories seem more real. The overall tone is surprisingly academic and you may have to sit down and think about what you read for a while before it makes complete sense but the exercise is worth it and the examples at the end of the book are a great help if you want to turn the theory into practice. --Sandra VogelRead More
