The battle at Balaclava in 1864 during the Crimean War won the British Highlanders immortal fame when they lined up in two rows and halted a charge of the Russian cavalry, gaining the title "The Thin Red Line." The Russian army was 25,000 strong and massively outnumbered the Highlanders, yet the strong-willed British forced the Russians into full retreat....THE THIN RED LINE showcases war objects and artifacts from many wars that the Highlanders battled in while under British rule. The photographs of these objects are meant for the reader to consider the effects that military service and war had on the Scots.
