The Treaty of Nice and Beyond: Realities and Illusions of Power in the EU (Contemporary European Studies) Book

The political stakes and technical complexities of the Treaty of Nice revealed in plain, accessible terms. The politics of negotiating the Treaty of Nice (designed to prepare the European Union's institutions for enlargement) were as much about power redistibution among the Union's existing Member States as about institutional efficiency. This book describes the content of the Nice Treaty and analyses the underlying political issues as well as the nature and impact of the changes agreed to the Union's founding Treaties on the eve of the largest enlargment in its history.
