It describes the appalling treatment the Argentinian conscripts suffered at the hands of their own generals; the emotions of soldiers meeting face-to-face ten years after they tried their hardest to kill one another; and the terror of battle as experienced by the ordinary soldier. The author, who also wrote "Excursion to Hell", joined the Parachute Regiment in 1978 at the age of 20.
