The Unauthorized "Star Wars" Compendium Book
Ted Edwards attempts to present a complete guide to Star Wars, and he succeeds pretty well in giving a sense of the expansion of the Star Wars universe from the original three films into the huge phenomenon that it is today, encompassing novels, computer games, comic books and toys. The book tells a history of these developments, from George Lucas's early draft outlines for "A New Hope" right up to recent Internet-based rumours about the forthcoming "Episode One". There are photographs of the original cast and crew, and extensive quotes from interviews given by Lucas himself, as well as the actors and production crew. Chapters on the comic books and novels contain major plot spoilers, so this is not a section for the neophyte. Edwards describes how all the published stories have been designed to fit together into an overall picture and includes detailed timelines for dedicated fans to follow the progress of their favourite characters. A chapter on the special editions details all the major additions and changes made to each film, and the book concludes with an entertaining list of "Fifty Reasons why Jedi Sucks". All in all, this is an interesting read that may help fans to get through the remaining bleak months before the first prequel finally hits our cinema screens in the summer. --Elizabeth SourbutRead More
