The "Which?" Guide to the Internet ("Which?" Consumer Guides) Book

Which? were among the first non-Internet specialists to become Internet Service Providers and they quickly followed up that initiative with this book. The Which? Guide to the Internet is aimed exclusively at UK-based surfers, which means the sample Web sites and resources mentioned tend to be more familiar than they sometimes are with non-UK books. This helps make the content accessible, as do the case studies that are dotted throughout the book, particularly in the early chapters. These illustrate how real people have made the leap from knowing next to nothing about the Net to using it productively in a variety of different ways. However, these factors count for nothing if the text itself is too complex, and Wentk has done a good job here. He uses everyday language to describe the workings of the Net, giving plenty of examples and covering the pros and cons, dos and don'ts and essential information fully. Chapters such as "Getting support and sharing interests online" and "Communicating with others" help ensure that the book has a practical rather than technical emphasis, so that while all the essential technical material is covered, the reader is never swamped by it. --Sandra VogelRead More
