To Quote C. S. Lewis Book
You could probably safely say that CS Lewis is one of the most widely read of all Christian writers. Flicking through this collection of choice quotations and one-liners, edited by Owen Collins, you can see why. Sex, death, marriage, heaven and hell--name your topic and Lewis had a pithy opinion on it. There are extracts here from his best-known works such as Mere Christianity and The Screwtape Letters and also extracts from Lewis' BBC radio broadcasts and from letters to friends, which are fascinating because they chart the evolution of his faith. Of course, no cluster of Lewis quotes would be complete without his now-famous summing up of Christ, in Mere Christianity, as mad, bad or holy. Whatever their beliefs, most readers probably wish they could defend them as well: A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would be a lunatic ... or else he would be the devil of hell. You must make a choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God or else a madman or something worse. Whether or not you agree with all Lewis's assertions is almost beside the point, so lyrically are they written. He not only had the gift of faith, but remarkable gifts of incisive thought and clear, vivid, heart-felt expression. --Amanda CameronRead More
