Tottering-by-gently: Volume 2 Book
Annie Tempest's first published book, 'How Green are your Wellies' sold out within 3 months in 1986; her most recent book, 'Tottering by Gently' sold out within 3 months in 1996, but has been reprinted by popular demand. In the intervening decades Annie has worked for most of the top social and style magazines and leading national newspapers. In 1993 Annie joined 'Country Life' and embarked on her international acclaimed carton strip 'Tottering-by-Gently.' The cartoon is about two ageing aristocrats, Dicky and Daffy Tottering, who live in a large, rambling country house on the edge of the small village of Tottering-by-Gently in North Pimmshire. The series is a carefully observed and beautifully drawn record of a certain way of life which is under threat in this modern age. Daffy, in Wellies and pearls, always about to quit smoking is married to Dicky, who hunts, shoots and involves himself in all the traditional rural pursuits. They are united by a loathing of all things politically correct, EC regulations, computer-speak, and townies legislating for the countryside. Annie Tempest at the O'Shea Gallery: The Gallery was delighted to receive the Tottering Warrant in 1995. In 1996 it launched Annie's first exhibition, 'Tottering-by-Gently in Mayfair.' This book coincides with the O'Shea gallery taking 'The Totterings on Tour' for the first ever overseas exhibition, sponsored by Holland & Holland in NYC.Read More
