Book Reviews

  • Split by a Kiss

    Nariece Sanderson27 October 2010

It is a quirky fresh teenage romance read, great for fans of Meg Cabot and Louise Renninson. A story about a plain 'nerdy' girl from an incredibly boring town in England that moves to a city in the USA. Of course, she takes this as an opportunity to transform from old 'Jo' to 'Josie the cool' when the popular kids take a liking to her and her British accent. However, things get even more interesting when she becomes Jo and Josie all at once. :-) A fun light-hearted teen read.

  • The Snowman: The Book of the Film (Book & CD)

    A. Nesbitt26 October 2010

The Snowman is a classic Christmas tale and the book is every bit as good as the much loved film: Young James builds a snowman in the garden and wakes up one night to discover that it has come to life. James shows the snowman around his house and in return the snowman takes James on a magical journey. I read this book to my son when he was younger and have recently bought a new copy so that I might read it to my grandson (also called James!) in the run up to Christmas this year.

  • Katy Carter Wants a Hero

    Kelly Marsh25 October 2010

Katy Carter knows that she is no domestic goddess but that doesn't stop her from wanting a hero of her very own. She should have found her hero in banker fiancee James but her relationship with him doesn't stop her from writing romance novels and daydreaming when she should be working. As there wedding gets nearer Katy tries to transform herself into the perfect wife with hilarious consequences. James was a jerk but the other characters were lots of fun and I was laughing loudly through most of this book. Its a great read for those times when you need a cheer up.

  • Kitchen: Recipes from the Heart of the Home

    Jan Gibbons25 October 2010

A lovely book filled with feel-good receipes. The photographs of the food are wonderful and each dish looks really mouth-watering. I only wish that the book came with a personal chef who would make all the food for you!

  • Fear the Worst

    Josh Stone24 October 2010

Tim Blake must track down is missing teenaged daughter, while at the same time he is forced to question everything that he thought he knew about her. I was recommended this book by a friend who knew that I love Harlen Coben's books and felt that Linwood Barclay wrote similar stuff. Fear the Worst is a good book but I felt it lacked the tension of Coben's books and also that the ending was a little weak. I think I would read Barclay's other books though as he does have a good style and can think up interesting plots.

  • Play Dead

    Josh Stone24 October 2010

Model/entrepreneur Laura Ayers and bastetball player David Baskin secretly marry and the future looks bright for them, but on their honeymoon tragedy strikes and David fails to return after a swim in dangerous waters. Harlan Coben's Play Dead follows Laura as she begins to suspect that David's death may not have been an accident and slowly uncovers a deadly conspiracy. This is a great, pacy thriller with plenty of action and intrigue. I would recommend all of Harlan Coben's books but this one is still my favourite.

  • The Snowman: A Harry Hole thriller (Oslo Sequence 5)

    Josh Stone24 October 2010

I didn't realise at the time I bought it, but this is actually the fifth book in Jo Nesbo's Harry Hole series. Luckily it was an excellent book that drew me in quickly and so I didn't feel lost having not read the previous books. Having said that, The Snowman is such a good book that I am planning on buying the previous four when I get a chance.

  • The CTS New Catholic Bible: Presentation Edition

    G. Ovington-Brown22 October 2010

I wanted a very special Bible, as the only ones I'd ever owned were a children's Bible and a small New Testament version I was given at school. This Bible was perfect. Contains the Old and New Testaments, plus lots more information such as readings and so on. All in an easy to hold leather covered binding. I'm really happy with my purchase and would highly recommend it to anyone.

  • Catholicism for Dummies

    G. Ovington-Brown22 October 2010

As a Catholic Convert, I was looking for a book that would set out in simple terms, everything I wanted to know about the Catholic faith. I bought several other books which didn't really match up to what I was seeking. Catholicism for Dummies came out on top for being easy to understand and straight to the point. No fuss just simple English. Everything I wanted to know was there.

A brilliant book and I would highly recommend it to anyone who is thinking of converting to the Catholic faith or who wants to know more about it.

If your a fan of Top Gear then this is the book for you. Find out who is the mystery man behind the Stigs mask, how he got the job and what its like working for Clarkson. A great book for petrol heads.
